Who we are

Venn Studios is a Brazilian indie game studio based in São Paulo. This website is operated by Venn Studios. For any privacy-related questions, contact us at [email protected].

What data we collect

We collect the following information when you use our website:

  • Newsletter signup: Your email address, submitted voluntarily through our newsletter form.
  • Public accounts: If you create an account, we store your email address, display name, password hash and salt, account status, and server-side session records. Session records include a hashed session token, expiry time, optional hashed IP, and user agent so we can keep you logged in and revoke sessions.
  • CAPSULES community tools: If you nominate a game, submit a Steam or custom capsule test, upload capsule artwork, or cast a shelf/systems signal, we store the project link or Steam app ID, uploaded image, optional contact fields or notes you submit, moderation status, vote choices, and the account that submitted or voted where login is required. Anonymous CAPSULES votes use a salted hash derived from your IP and user agent (not your raw IP) to rate-limit abuse and prevent duplicate votes. Capsule Test uses a random first-party voter cookie to keep an anonymous visitor in the same A/B variant and deduplicate their reactions. It contains no account or IP data. We do not use these hashes or the voter cookie to identify you personally.
  • Analytics data: We use a first-party analytics system (no third-party trackers like Google Analytics). This collects:
    • A randomly generated visitor ID stored in your browser's localStorage
    • Pages visited, time spent, and scroll depth
    • Viewport size, device type, and browser language
    • Referrer URL and UTM parameters
    • Click interactions (navigation, social links, wishlist clicks)
    • Approximate location (country, region, and city), derived from your IP address by our CDN (Cloudflare). The IP address itself is never stored.
    • A salted, daily-rotating hash derived from a truncated form of your IP address — used to tell visits apart and to detect abuse. It cannot be reversed to your IP and it resets every day.

We do not store your raw IP address, and we do not require your legal name, precise (GPS-level) location, or any payment information through this website. Your IP address is used only momentarily to derive an approximate location, anti-abuse hashes, and the daily analytics hash described above, and is then discarded.

How we use your data

  • Email: To send studio updates and game news. We do not sell or share your email with third parties.
  • Public accounts: To let you log in, manage your CAPSULES submissions, and vote on approved community shelf tests. If you choose Google, X, or Apple sign-in, we store that provider's stable account identifier, display name, and any verified email address the provider shares.
  • CAPSULES submissions and votes: To moderate community shelf tests, host approved uploaded capsule artwork, show approved submissions publicly, count shelf/systems signals, and reduce spam or duplicate voting.
  • Analytics: To understand how visitors interact with our site and improve the experience. This data is aggregated and not linked to your identity.

Third-party services

Our website loads resources from the following external services:

  • Google Fonts — For typography (Space Grotesk, Inter, JetBrains Mono). Google may collect basic connection data. Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Tailwind CSS — For styling on our game pages (e.g. Rogue Reigns), loaded from a CDN. The CDN may collect basic connection data. Tailwind CSS.
  • Cloudflare — Our content delivery network and security layer. It processes your IP address to deliver the site and to provide the approximate location (country/city) noted above. Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
  • Google, X, and Apple account sign-in — Used only when you choose one of these providers to access a public CAPSULES account. Their own privacy terms govern the authentication data they process.

We use an essential session cookie when you log in to a public account, an essential language-preference cookie when you choose a site language, and an anonymous Capsule Test voter cookie when you open or react to a test. These first-party cookies are not used for advertising or cross-site tracking. The analytics visitor ID is stored in localStorage and is not shared with any third party.

Data retention

  • Email: Retained until you unsubscribe. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
  • Public accounts: Retained while your account is active or suspended. You can download an account-data export from account settings and delete the account there. Database records cascade immediately; unreferenced uploaded objects are removed by storage reconciliation.
  • CAPSULES submissions and votes: Retained while the community feature is active, unless you request deletion or we remove data during moderation.
  • Analytics: Retained for up to 12 months, then automatically deleted.

Your rights

You can:

  • Unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time via the link in any email
  • Clear your localStorage to reset the anonymous visitor ID
  • Clear site cookies to reset the anonymous Capsule Test voter ID
  • Log out to clear your public account session cookie
  • Download a JSON export of your public account, submissions, and account-bound votes from account settings
  • Delete your account and account-owned submissions from account settings
  • Request deletion of your data by emailing [email protected]

We may update this policy as our services evolve. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
